Project
OVERVIEW AND BACKGROUND
The Armtec Community Recreation Centre (ACRC) is a 75,000-square-foot facility planned to be centrally located on Springfield Centre Drive in Oakbank to meet the growing recreational needs of Springfield residents. As an accessible and inclusive gathering space, it will enhance local recreation opportunities and reduce the need for residents to seek services outside the municipality. The ACRC was designed in partnership with LM Architectural Group to reflect a shared vision for community wellness and engagement. Its location in Oakbank aligns with the municipality’s largest and fastest-growing community, ensuring convenient access for residents. The facility will serve as a central hub for recreation, social connection, and a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle.
Phase 1
Phase 1 of construction will include a multipurpose community hall/gymnasium, multi-use turf, multipurpose room, an indoor walking/jogging track, indoor playground and community kitchen.
Phase 2
Phase 2 of construction will include the indoor turf and a fitness centre.
The facility and site will allow the opportunity for later expansions to incorporate even more activities within the multiplex. Construction will take approximately 20 months and a project goal to have shovels in the ground in 2025.
What Happens Next?
Following the approval of the first reading of the borrowing by-law for phase 1, the project information is sent to the Province for approval. Following provincial approval, Council will then follow with the second and third readings of the project. Upon approval of the second and third readings, construction will commence.
