Smoke Alarms for Every (S.A.F.E.) Family Program

The S.A.F.E. Family Program is a province-wide initiative delivered in partnership with the Office of the Fire Commissioner and Manitoba Firefighters’ Burn Fund. The goal of the program is to save lives by protecting residents with a working smoke alarm and encouraging families to make and practice a home fire escape plan.

What’s Included:

  • Free 10-year lithium battery-operated smoke alarms (limit of two per household)
  • General fire safety information and tips to prevent household fires
  • A template for a home fire escape plan
  • Liability release forms and an installation survey form

Who Qualifies:

Eligible homes include those with at-risk residents, including older adults, newcomers to Manitoba, young children, people with disabilities and low-income families.

Only owner-occupied homes qualify for the S.A.F.E. Family program, since landlords are responsible for installing and maintaining smoke alarms in their rental units.

To find out if you qualify for the S.A.F.E. Family Program or to request an installation, please contact Fire Chief Brian Seaton at bseaton@rmofspringfield.ca or call 204-444-3321.

Fire Underwriters Survey

Property owners in communities with accredited Superior Tank Shuttle Service are eligible for improved property insurance rates similar to those in communities with municipal-type water supply systems.

Fire Underwriters Survey does not set property insurance rates, however the organization is responsible for publishing the Canadian Fire Insurance Grading Index which is used by insurers across Canada to base insurance rates upon.

Fire Underwriters Survey is recognized by the Insurance Bureau of Canada as being the only organization authorized to publish fire insurance grades in Canada.
