Council is Requesting Feedback on Council Size
Under The Municipal Act, Council must pass a by-law in order to increase or decrease the number of councillors. Administration has been directed by Council to seek feedback on the size of Council, with changes taking effect at the next general election to be held October 26, 2022.
Council of the Rural Municipality of Springfield currently consists of the Mayor, elected “at-large”, and five (5) Councillors, elected under a ward system.
The average salary of a Council member in Springfield is $43,000.00.
Once a decision is made by by-law on the size of Council, a ward boundary review will be initiated to try to achieve an approximate equal number of residents in each ward, taking into account topographical features, settlement patterns and population trends.
